    Studying in Israel

    During the first stage of the program, students will live and study at the WIZO Nahalal Youth Village in northern Israel, near Haifa. After high school, the students will study at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.

    Nahalal Youth Village

    The Nahalal Youth Village was established in 1923 with a vision to provide a home and an education for its students. The school is coeducational with a student body of approximately 1,400 students in grades 7-12. The school serves teenagers from the well-established neighbouring towns and moshavim (agricultural collectives) as well as providing a home for over 230 youth, including Naale students from the FSU, South American immigrants, and native Israeli children.

    The school’s success lies in its exceptional ability to house a student body of such wide diversity – recognizing differences while encouraging tolerance – striving for academic excellence while serving the needs of the less capable.

    Nahalal is committed to the belief that all children, regardless of their family background, country of origin or socio-economic situation are entitled to a good education and the opportunity to succeed in life.  The Youth Village focuses on the development and growth of each child while they provide a high level innovative education with a focus on building good citizens who can give back to their society.  The Youth Village emphasizes tolerance, responsibility and leadership.

    The Technion

    The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, in Haifa, is Israel’s premier institute of science and technology and the country’s oldest university in those areas. Among the eighteen faculties of the university, nine are related to engineering in a variety of fields including electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. The university has nine-and-a-half thousand undergraduates including many international students.

    In recent years Technion faculty members have twice won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry; Professor Dan Shechtman of the Materials Engineering Faculty received the Nobel Prize in 2011 and Professors Avram Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover of the Faculty of Medicine received the Nobel Prize in 2004.

    Technion graduates account for the majority of Israeli-educated scientists and engineers, and a large percentage of the country’s founders and managers of high-tech industries. A significant percentage of Israeli NASDAQ companies are led by Technion graduates.

    The Technion Center for Youth Activities and Pre-University studies fulfills a critical function, both in encouraging talented youth to consider a career in science or technology and preparing candidates for one or other of the Technion’s undergraduate degree programs.  Youth activities are available throughout the school year and include a wide variety of extra-curricular, enrichment courses for school children. The Technion Center for Youth Activities and Pre-University studies will be actively involved in the Anières Elite Academy program supplying enrichment programs in science and technology to assist the students in preparing for their future studies at the Technion.

    Past Naale students share their thoughts on studying abroad in Israel:

I will be able to find a job almost anywhere in Israel…. Where I came from there were no extracurricular and enrichment activities like we have here – no trips, hikes, no sports and fitness clubs, no athletic activities or pools.  Thank you for this opportunity”.

The Naale program is unique, it strengthens us and nurtures us, and grants opportunities without compromise.  When I finish the Naale program I can go anywhere in the world and not be alone.  I have made so many new friends and learned so much.  Now I am taking several interesting and intellectually challenging classes at the Technion – I plan to continue to study technology in Israel”.
